The taste of a specific origin is an idea our family has been studying for generations. Why does the same grape variety from different vineyards taste so different?
We would like to examine this exciting question together with you and invite you to explore our Rieden (vineyards).

smoky spiciness
paired with cool texture

Ried Kranachberg (Grosse STK Ried®) extends between Gamlitz and Leutschach and is primarily planted with Sauvignon Blanc (approx. 90 %). The unique composition of these soils (calcareous sand with light mica) gives the wines a distinctive spiciness with inimitable fruit.

Ried Pfarrweingarten (Grosse STK Ried®) is a small, well-protected south-facing vineyard that is farmed exclusively by Sattlerhof. The shell and coral limestone soils offer excellent conditions for Pinot varieties like Morillon (Chardonnay) and Grauburgunder (Pinot Gris).

RIED TRINKAUS

A small vineyard steeped in tradition rises up in the middle of the Ried Kranachberg. The Ried Trinkaus can be found on 200-year-old maps and was already planted with vines at that time. The soil is even poorer than that of the Kranachberg and is a mixture of limestone and pebble-gravel. Our team likes to call it “Caribbean”, because the vineyard is exceptionally warm due to its steep southern exposure.

Ried
Kapellenweingarten

Alpine, cool, and incredibly delicate

The vineyard lies on the “roof” of Südsteiermark at an elevation of almost 600 m above sea level. Enclosed by six chapels from different eras, which give the vineyard its name, the vineyard slopes from east to south. In the midst of the vineyards lies an old farmhouse where we keep 50 sheep that graze the vineyards in winter. Morillon (Chardonnay), Sauvignon Blanc and Muskateller (Muscat) thrive here on poor gravel soils.
